Needle Valve Issue

You haven't used your UTV for a week or two, you start it, back it out of the shed, you get off go shut the shed door, jump back on and go to take off and your UTV sputters to a stop.

Your try to start the UTV it cranks over but it won't start .... what's happened?

Your carb needle valve has stuck, Why?

Ethanol mix in your fuel attracts moisture, which promotes a quicker deterioration of the fuel that creates a residue that can clogs filters, hoses, jets and needle valves in you fuel system. Because Ethanol attract moisture it also causes corrosion in carbs which can cause the needle valve to stick closed or even stick open and cause flooding.

How can you fix this issue. Don't use gas with Ethanol! If all you can get is gas with Ethanol then you must use a Gas Stabilizer product designed for use with Ethanol. We recommend Marine Formula Fuel Stabilizer. Use a new clean plastic gas can to fill your UTV. This has become a major issue with all types of ATV's, UTV's Mowers etc with carbs not just the clones.

Below is the procedure for unsticking the needle valve and cleaning the carb.

Remove 4 screws from bottom of carb and remove carb bowl. Be careful not to damage sealing Oring.

Remove screw holding down white plastic float pivot pin

Pull up on float. If needle valve won't pull up, carefully pull up on needle valve with needle nose pliers, do not pull to hard on float as you will bend float tab.

Remove screw holding down needle seat. Remove seat with needle nose pliers

Clean or replace needle seat. The gauze filter can be pop off with a small screw driver for cleaning. Reinstall filter.

Clean residue and corrosion from carb. Reinstall needle seat.

Clean or replace needle valve. If it is badly corroded it will need to be replaced.

Hang the needle from float as shown and reinstall needle in seat.

The needle should move freely in and out of the seat when lifting float. Reassemble carb in reverse order.

PLEASE NOTE : DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN THE SCREW THAT HOLDS DOWN THE FLOAT PIVOT ROD AS THIS WILL CAUSE THE FLOAT TO STICK. USE A SMALL AMOUNT OF LOCTITE ON SCREW AND TIGHTEN SO IT IS JUST TIGHT.
